    Out of state License options?

Moving back to Texas in late Sept. from Ohio. I’m having a bit of sticker shock with the $315 just to hunt deer this fall till my 6 months of “residence” kicks in. There is a cheaper option at $132 but I’m limited to birds, pigs, and exotics basically. Do y’all think that will tide me over till next fall? Haven’t killed a pig in years!

That's is your only options I believe.

That’s unreasonably cheap. Go out west and see what one tag will cost you. Texas needs to reciprocate what other states does to its residents.

I don’t think you even need a license to hunt hogs on private property.

            I’m not sure I’m following?

do you mean TX needs to charge more or less?

in Iowa it's $150 for the Small
game and Habitat stamp. Than you'll have to buy a Deer license for the season you want to hunt.

Texas should charge what other states charge us. For instance Colorado charges non residents roughly $450 for one deer tag. We should charge Colorado residents the same amount to hunt here. To my knowledge we don’t even discriminate against nonresidents in public hunt drawings. That’s bs. Treat them like they treat us.

I prefer all the states go in the other direction with prices, but I guess then public land would be even packed with people in orange vests.

It bugs me that my federal taxes go to federal public land all across the nation but I have to pay the nonresident price.

The cost of the license whether resident or nonresident is probably the cheapest item in my hunting budget. Fuel on one trip is almost as much.

I faced this very same thing when I moved back here in Sept 1981. Just had to sit it out. If Ohio offers a lifetime now, you should get it before you leave. Maybe even plan a few quality trips for this season up there. I'd sure like to go back and hunt the farms I did back when I moved there in 1978. But, from the looks of Google Earth, there have been changes to the Township I lived in near Ashland. Still, lots of public. And never had a problem getting permision to hunt someone's property when I was there.
