Boating on Lewisville in wind

We've had a busy summer and no chance to get away for a vacation so I'm thinking of renting a boat for 3-4 hours tomorrow and putting around Lewisville with my wife and kiddos.
Wind report shows wind speeds of 13-15 mph with gusts up to 21 mph.

I've never been on this lake and want to get an idea of how bad it gets out there in these conditions...what is your experience?

I don't want my family to have a miserable experience considering we haven't been out on the water in years.

I could be completely wrong, but I think I remember reading an article that Lewisville is one of the most dangerous lakes in Texas. Seems like it's due to the big boat traffic. I've never been on it though.
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

You would be correct. Lewisville and Ray Hubbard are both on the dangerous list.

I have not been on that lake but one time and it was decades ago. Have never seen so many idiots boating on a lake since that time. If i was OP I would make the drive up to Texoma for boating on a much nicer lake.

But, if’n all the victims would have worn a life jacket, they would not have been victims.

Life jackets and kill switches saves lives.

Stay back behind the old dam cut and up in the coves and you will be OK. Running out in the main lake is gonna be rough and especially dangerous if there are a lot of the big boats tearing it up out there.

Lewy is busy on the weekends but some of that traffic will go away with College and HS kids going back to school. Several protected areas and west side of 35 bridge can be calm when the east side is choppy. Several protected coves as well,. But yes, be careful and watch out for the jet skis that drive crazy. In bass boat, no issues with 15-20 mph winds but consistent 20 mph+ and I'd stay off the big water or put in in a cove ramp and stay around there. 20mph+ i usually skip for fishing. Give it a go!

I'd go up to Texoma, or over to Tawakoni.

Put in at the Little Elm city park and stay in that northern cove area…been there many times with the wind

I go to Lewisville lake 2-3 times a week during the summer and Im out there 6-7 months out of the year for the past 15 years. Most of the drownings and deaths happen at the swim areas and parks, most people leave out that caveat.

It does get busy at times but nothing unbearable. Boat smart and just find a wind block or cove and you will be completely fine.

I would check different boat rental spots as they tend to get booked early on.

You are correct. Lewisville is no joke! Very sketchy the later In The day it gets. More boats ,beer and more boats haulin arse! That lake can get dangerous fast
