    2023-2024 Duck Hunting Thread!

    Well........

We are officially 30 days out from swatting mosquitos and rice rockets! Looking forward to this year as we have already installed a couple new pit blinds and modified some fields. Nesting season was above average again this year if I am not mistaken? If so we shall see what the numbers look like. Last year was a solid teal season for us and the first half of the split was good but it went downhill after that.

Oh.... Snipe season is only 86 days away days away also

Us duck hunters here in the central part of the state will need some of that wet stuff to fall from the sky for an extended period of time for a duck to be able to land around here......I guess we could always load up and head south or north to find a few.

Best of luck to all you mud stomping web feet chasers.

I don't believe the counts they give and with the drought and lcra cutting water off to the farmers on the west side it is gonna be tough holding birds with below normal food sources IF they get here. Most of the marsh I have looked at is dry or saltier than normal hindering grass production. Still got some time so hopefully things change.
BTW 150, If that is your rice off the road out by Anahuac, it is looking good!

Watching one of the ponds on my place in young county take its last drink before going dry. I give it another week and it is mud.

Definitely ready for my 16 day run on early teal. I can't get enough of that.

Believe it should be unless it’s the neighbors! Looking forward to your annual Teal bar burner! Will have to coordinate and if I have a spot open one of those days I’ll give you a shout to come join us for a change of scenery if anything!

Been working the dog doing some fine tuning but we're ready. I don't expect our Louisiana spot to produce much of anything this year but our Texas spots look promising.

Quick question for you guys hunting rice fields. What are yall doing for blinds? We are looking for ideas to improve our cover from last year. Early season we were fine but later in the year the birds got a little cautious. Typically have 4 hunters.

As low of a vertical profile as possible, try to not have to much of a boxy outline/look and match the surrounding vegetation to a T. Look at mixing up your decoy spread also.

In! Let's do this. Ready to take front row seat to FVR's Teal Beatdown 101 class.

Took me a while to get my deer killed last year so I didn't get to hunt as much earlier in the season as I wanted. Gonna change that this year though. Took my shotgun out the other day to switch out the turkey choke from it. It's been staring at me ever since. Ate a fat panhandle mallard for supper two nights ago. Got a new dog collar in. Been monkeying with my GoPros and watching some old clips. Colder days are ahead!

Yep, I'm more than a little ready

Ready to kick it off here in SETX. After shooting the SBE3 20 gauge for teal and big duck last season with great success, I went and picked up a 28 gauge to use this year. I am excited to put it to the test during teal season.

We actually have some water this year in north-northeast texas. Haven't been out scouting yet, but will be in the coming weeks. Out early teal season is always very hit or miss. Hoping this is a better year.

That is one of the reasons I hunt so many different areas. I love seeing new country. Limits aren't the big thing anymore. Just love being out. The only thing I never tire of is that SE Tx coastal marsh. If only I could find a lease or small piece of property for sale I would be in heaven,.

I’m in, looking forward to this season on the tanks at my lease. We have more water down there than we did last year. Also looking forward to getting back in the marsh, I didn’t hunt it at all last year.

Only upside to drought, it concentrates the birds. I'll for sure be hitting the marshes up and down the coast this year now that I have a Outboard jet. It's in Missouri right now getting some motor work, hopefully be ready in time for teal, I might just chase them this year.

Can't wait for the season to start. A bittersweet one for me. My boy's last season in the house before he heads off to college to parts unknown at this time. Going to try to get in as many days as possible with him.
