I work from home and popped in there every so often to cool down. It got to the mid 80s in the house when the AC was out but it was noticeably cooler in the bedroom with this thing going. It never got to 60 like I set it at, but it was significantly cooler than the rest of the house. Home AC is fixed so now it's going to the lease and getting installed out there.

I would buy one again in a heartbeat if put in the same situation. Simple set up with just a wall plug and hose to the window.

I got a similiar unit that we bring when we visit the MIL's house. The backroom we stay in is not big, so that unit works like a champ. The first year I bought it my MIL's big window unit went out. Needless to say we all were in the back room until the window unit got fixed.

I should stress the room is not big, but by keeping the door closed it cools the room off really well. I also noticed with it full blast and the big window unit working, it did make a difference in the entire house. Keep in mind I think the house is maybe 900 square feet.

I'd go 10k btu or larger. They work great.

I love Texas and all but I think Iowa, Kansas or Wyoming is in my future.
Is your outside unit fan not working??

Smh.....Where do you think all that air coming out of the single hose comes from? It's HOT outside air being pulled into the house. A double hose pulls air from outside then over the condenser then back out. A dual hose is Way more efficient because it is not pulling outside air into the house to replace the air blown out the single hose.

SMH, how does one hose exhaust out of the unit and also bring in outside air??? Can't happen.

Negative. Just realized that today. Just thought AC wasn’t keeping up but confirmed it was not working. Hoping the capacitor replacement works.

Where does that air come from. Every cubic foot of air that goes out the single hose is hot outside air being pulled into the house. Google it if you don't believe me.

                      Makes sense.

Sorry for derailing your post. Lol. But, I do highly recommend the Whynter 14,000 btu dual hose from Amazon. I have had 3 total portables and this one is by far the best of those 3 in my experience. A big plus is that it has a timer that you can set when you want it to come on. A coworker also bought one and is very pleased with his too. Good luck with your search!

I want to get one as a backup for when my home A/C goes out but I'm so dumb about all the info I don't even know where to start looking. No clue why you have to vent them out a window. I guess because of the hot air coming off the compressor coils. LOL

Looks like I was wrong. Wasn't the first time and won't be the last I'm sure.

I had the same thing happen to me last week. Capacitor is a $15-$25 part. I'm getting a pair to keep around. Not hard to do yourself with a little youtube work and common sense.

For you handy men that want to keep a few spare parts, here is what I keep on hand. Capacitor(s), defrost board, air handler board, condenser fan motor, air handler motor, contactor, transformer, 5 amp fuse for air handler, and a new thermostat. I can fix just about anything that doesn't involve refrigerant.
