Duck decoys in deep water from shore

    Hi TBHers
I have a new property with a couple of ponds. My experience duck hunting has been in flooded rice fields where we just put our decoys out and retrieve them in knee deep water wearing waders. Please show your system for putting out decoys from shore. Any help is appreciated.

We just cut a long cane pole, duct taped a coat hanger to the end and didnt throw the decoys any farther than the pole was long.

      Couple options.

      - Fishing rod with top water lure that has big tremble hooks.

      - Buy a cheap small kayak or jon boat

I use a fishing rod with a lipless crank bait with 50 pound braid and I just snag the decoy line.

I have done the fishing pole trick also.

The fishing pole / crankbait trick also works if you don’t have a dog to retrieve your ducks.

Pool cleaning pole that extends with garage storage hook taped to the end

Pinch down the barbs and file the hook points down on the treble hooks.

But really a cheap kayak or small John boat is the way to go.

Same general idea as a few posts above, but I use this:

Discover premium waterfowl, hunting, and shooting gear at Mack’s Prairie Wings, your trusted source for Avery 18 Foot Telescoping Decoy Retriever. Shop top brands for the dedicated outdoor adventurer at everyday low prices.

It's held up pretty well for a couple years now. I've been happy with it.

I use that also but most of my decoys are past the 18’ range of the decoy pole usually.

My thoughts exactly. Get a cheap sit inside yak. Pull dequeeke cord up and put weight in boat. Pull dequeeks around while picking up. Pcik up birds too.
