    Credit card with best rewards????

I haven’t had a credit card in many years. But had an issue with a rental car while on vacation and all they would accept was a credit card, not a debit card. So it has me thinking about getting one. I know some people have one and pay all there bills on it, pay it off every month, and get some kind of reward points or cash back type thing for using it.

So my question is what card or company do you recommend for getting the best rewards.

We use Costco visa. Includes Costco membership.

This all boils down to math, you will get a percentage of everything back that you buy. The sign up bonuses are great, but it sounds like you just want a one and done. Find a 2% unlimited cash back credit card with no annual fee, also get a no foreign transaction fee if you travel out of the country much. RBFCU has a card like this, Citi has the double cash, but I think they have a foreign transaction fee. This is the simplest way unless you want to go down the rabbit hole of opening and closing cards.

I have a BofA 3% cash back for online purchases card. I have it linked to my Amazon Prime account. I carry a BofA 3,2,1% business card for everything else. 3% gas and business supplies, 2% restaurants, 1% for everything else. No complaints with either one.

Just so you know, Bank of America has been tracking gun related purchases and feeding them to Big Brother, if that makes any difference to you. Others may do the same.

Citibank has a 2% cash back unlimited card.

Amazon card is pretty good if you buy a lot of stuff through them.

                  Good question.

The Dave Ramsey technique is to avoid the credit cards like a bed of snakes. In favor of his thinking, the credit cards work against you psychologically. They do separate you from the pain of seeing a few hundreds leave your wallet. You often spend more than you intend.

The other side says that credit is a good tool and you should use it to your advantage. I actually semi-subscribe to this outlook but I can say that if I am not on top of our family's credit cards, it gets sideways, fast. Much faster than the cash we spend.

I have relatively good credit and I have not found a lot of genuine value in any credit card, to be honest. There are some AMEX cards that will go to bat for you on bad purchases or fraud. But when I track the rewards and their value, I am not getting a whole lot. And I keep an Excel spreadsheet of my annual rewards.

So I end up using AMEX or Discover, often because their customer service is much better than the Visa or M/C companies. SInce Costco went to Citi, the customer service has declined, IMO.

I use the Capital One Savor card and pay it off monthly. I usually rack up $800-$1000 a year in rewards and it pays for my out of state hunting license and deer tags in OK every year.

Yep, I’m a pretty big fan of Mr. Ramsey. Im on what I like to call a modified version on his plan. Other than house and truck payment we are debt free. Truck payment is the modified part. I only buy when I can pay at a minimum 50% down, this past one was more like 75% and finance less than 36 months. Only reason I’m even looking into the credit card is, had I not had my work corporate card I would have been in a real jam on the rental car. I will have 1 and only 1 card, and it will be payed off monthly.

I used to use my Citi Double Cash card for most purchases, which gave me 2% cash back, but it was no good for foreign travel (which I do a lot). A few years ago, I switched everything to a United Mileage Plus card with an annual fee. Even with the annual fee, I seem to come out ahead on airline miles than I would on the cash back, and pay no foreign transaction fees. This obviously wouldn't be the first choice for anyone who travels infrequently, or who values the cash back more than points.

I was a Costco Amex guy forever. Was worth a couple thousand dollars a year to me in cash back. Not anymore with the move to Citi.

Currently using a Southwest Airlines card. I earn enough points a year that I get a companion pass. I fly Southwest to Costa Rica a lot.

Also carry the United Airlines card for my trips to Guatemala and Panama. Lounge access and an additional free checked bag is a great perk.

I have the Savor card but it is just for restaurants and meals -(4%) I also have a Spark business card with Capital One with 2% off of every purchase - I pay both off every week so zero charges - so depending on what you are using it for you can max out the rewards - IF ANYONE HAS SOMETHING BETTER PLEASE LET ME KNOW AND I WILL CHANGE TO IT
