    Deer Feeder for Dog Food?

Anyone made automatic dog feeder from a deer feeder? Wondering if that's what I need to try. Obviously I would shield/funnel the food into a bowl rather than scattering it like deer corn LOL.
So I bought a couple of the Pet Lodge free feeders to try out and it doesn't work out well letting them have full access to the food. We went away for 10 days and I put 2 weeks worth of food in each. My Wife's uncle was there to check on them and make sure they had water, but they ate all the food in the first 5-6 days. He added about another weeks worth of food and they ate all that. I came home to some pretty fat dogs HAHA. They each ate 3 weeks worth of food in 10 days.
A couple of the small bucket feeders on top of the kennels with some sort of shield and funnel down some large PVC into a bowl is what I'm thinking. Long as the food doesn't jam I think it should work out. Portion control is what they need LOL

Get your pet on a routine with the Lamco Automatic Pet Feeder. This pet feeder allows you to consistently feed your pet on a daily basis without being present. You set the time and the amount and the feeder will do the rest. The adjustable feed tray can be removed for easy cleanup. The Lamco Pet Feeder features heavy g

lamco makes a really nice one. Knew a guy running 4 on his kennels and zero problems

You may want to look at the Ghost feeder.
It drops feed straight down so you could use a tube to put it in the feed bowl.
      Good Luck

You may know but on those self feed feeders you have to watch the raccoons. At my place they were eating more than my dog lol.

Raccoons would have a bad time if they entered my kennels LOL

I believe there is a TBH sponsor that makes them. At least there was at one time.

Check out the new Ranch Series Auger Feeder from Moultrie. I can text you a video of one I used to feed my dog while I was gone for an extended period of time.

The Ranch Series Auger® Feeder was designed with the hobby farmer in mind but is very versatile in its operation. A powerful 12V gear motor drives the heavy-duty stainless-steel auger shaft, allowing you to use whatever type of feed your animals need. Feed is dispensed through a galvanized steel pipe to eliminate worries of corrosion for users who prefer to use feed mixes. The auger kit includes a discharge chute for dispensing feed through enclosures into troughs or containers for numerous kinds of animals (e.g., cattle, sheep), or the feed can drop straight to the ground. The feeder legs can be set up straight so that your feeder can discharge through a gate/fence, or angled at 15 degrees (recommended for most situations) to provide the most stability. The Ranch Series Auger Feeder is built to last thanks to powder-coated metal construction, and it’s available in two giant hopper sizes—300 lbs. capacity and 450 lbs. capacity—to best fit your needs. Schedule out your feeds using the Easy Set programmable timer and adjust the power settings as needed; we recommend high power if using a high-friction feed. Easy Set Timer: Learn how to program your digital timer by watching our tutorial. Pro tip: Hang the hopper lid by its handle on one of the top tabs to make fill-ups even easier! Explore more: Increase the versatility of your new Ranch Series feeder by adding the Ranch Series Broadcast Feeder Kit to your gear. Plus, check out the Ranch Series Gravity Feeder!

Giving this a bump, looking to come up with something myself and could use some brainstorm ideas...

My parents old neighbor built one with the help of my dad. He was and still is a LEO and worked weird hours so he needed a way to reliably feed the doggo.

If I’m remembering right they took a 5 gallon bucket and used an oil funnel from the auto parts store. Dry fit all this first of course. Drill the right size hole to drop the funnel into the bottom of the bucket, glue down the flange to bottom of the bucket. Cut funnel off at the appropriate length to give the drop and funnel width you need. Bolt a cheaper but programmable feeder motor to the bottom. Then they used a smaller what I think was a paint mixing cup to go around the feeder. Maybe it was a smaller 1gal bucket or something. It just has to be big enough to give room for the food to sling out, hit the bucket and then drop past the feeder. Then 1 inch PVC came off the bottom of the smaller bucket as a drop tube and into his oversized food bowl. Did it look the best? Well no. Did it work? Like a champ. If you are gone for longer periods, you might need something more than a 5 gallon bucket. I mean, you could do the exact same setup with a 30gal deer feeder. Haha.

Im sure now there are plenty of automatic feeders to be found on Amazon, but in the early 2000s there wasn’t.

Decided to go look around and see what could be used these days. Something like this on the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket would do the trick. 1 gallon bucket around the bottom to catch feed as it’s thrown. I know they did something to make the bottom bucket be funnel shaped, but the weight of the PVC might have been enough to do that, it was a thin almost see through bucket. That’s why I’m thinking paint mixing cup.

Deer feeder will clog. They make good systems where you set amount and frequency of drops

5 gallon bucket with a 6 volt feeder attached to the bottom seems the simplest... but I may be missing something here.
