Which River is close to Houston to sit and cool off

I’m looking for a place to take grand kids and dog, to go and sit in some cold freshwater, 3 hours or so from Houston. Not interested in floating, some place that is not super crowded. How is Barton Springs or maybe Jacobs Well. What you suggest. Must be Kid and dog friendly

Gonna be hard to dodge the crowds. Might try palmetto state park. You could at least spread out some away from other people.

With this hot *** weather all around us, you might be hard pressed to find a cool peice of water without a bunch of people around it. I will say the last time I went to Jacob's Well a few years ago, there was not much water there at all and not much to do outside of the actual well there. I'd say the Guadalupe or Frio might be your best bet but likely crowded.

Spring Creek Park, unsure on the coolness of the water. It should be wet though. You could also go to Lake Somerville or Lake Conroe

Check out the horshoe bend of the guadalupe river in Canyon Lake, TX. Go to the bridge where all the tubers put in, go the opposite direction of the river flow and you'll have a big stretch almost all to yourself. And trust me, the water is plenty cold enough to chill out. Remember to wear water shoes. Lots of rocks and can be slippery. Get lunch at Pier Sushi or River Rose Tavern which is just up the hill.

This is the best place in the greater Houston area. I think also called Jesse Jones Park

The I45 Launch is especially good this time of year. You can just park on the bridge, leave your keys and belongings in the car (safest neighborhood in Texas), and go for a swim in the crystal clear springs below.

in all seriousness OP the only cool water still pumping this time of year is the Comal and it will be the epitome of crowded.

Anywhere inside, with a good A/C, crank it to 68 and fill the bath tub.

No cool water outside anywhere close to Houston unless you know someone with a chiller on their swimming pool.

If you’re willing to drive to Barton Springs for some cool clear water, you might consider Landa Park I’m New Braunfels instead. Just inside your 3 hour limit, it’s spring fed like Barton Springs but without all the nekkid aging hippies and their dogs. Very family oriented.

Jacob's well is closed due to low flow for over a year now. If you are willing to drive that far, New Braunfels has several options for tubing and sitting, as does San Marcos. That was some good advice about the horseshoe as a good place to chill if you just go upstream of the entry point a bit.

Somerville. Go to the dead end of iron bridge road up towards nails creek. Gonna take google. South/south west side of the lake
