Does someone adding you as an authorized user affect your credit?

My wife recently put me as an authorized user on her credit card and shortly after made a fairly substantial purchase on said card. Shortly after my experian credit score dropped 50+ plus points. My fico score still shows in the high 700s. I thought it wouldn't affect my score from what I read. Do any of y'all know if it could be affecting my score? I can't think of anything else that it could be.

Yes it does, I had the exact same thing happen to me. My wife added me to her Lowes card and my score dropped.

Being an authorized user ant the issue…make sure that your revolving credit stays under 30% usage. I bet her purchase dropped your availabile credit amount and raised that percentage

I imagine it would affect your score (positively or negatively) because adding your kids (without giving them the card) as authorized users on your cards is one of the strategies suggested to build their credit before they launch out on their own.

You get the history of the account on your credit. My kids had high 700 credit scores when they turned 18 because I had put them on around 13 years old

Well, crap! I didn't even want that **** card. I wonder if my score would go back up if she removed me as an authorized user.

It probably made your average account age decrease as well which is another negative.

I gave up on obsessing about my credit rating sometime ago. It bounces and I seem to get a fishing email about once a month about my credit score. I don’t have a mortgage, don’T take out loans, so I don’t worry about it anymore.

                    Yup !
                    Same crap happened to me.
taking forever to recoup, once removed from card too.
