He's probably about to shed his skin. Its my experience they lighten up and get a blue/grey tone before they shed.

Copperhead. head shape, and can't see the eyes from the top...

We see a ton of rattlers down south (35 killed this year) but never seen a copperhead in person. Head shape screams venomous (to me) though!
