Dealing with missing puppy during training

Just wondering if anyone else has or is currently dealing with missing their dog/puppy while they are at gun dog training and how are you dealing with it? My baby is with what is known as the probably the best Boykin Spaniel trainer in Texas at the very least for a month now and is scheduled for at least six months of gun dog training. I get to go see her every month and next week is my first week seeing her since she left. I am looking forward to it seeing her is a gigantic understatement. Shamus Jean Louise “Scout”

I have had my lab for 2 months. Thinking of sending him to training for force fetch only. Not sure I can go several months without him. I feel comfortable with the training aspects not sure I’m comfortable with force fetch

That’s a tough one. Not sure I could handle it, especially if it’s your only dog.

i think I had a far easier time sending my kids away to camp than y’all are having sending your dogs to training!

I’ve got a couple mutts you can babysit in the meantime.

Don’t worry about me, I will get through it.

Well at least the kids aren’t gone for 6 months…… we do have a house full of dogs still but, she is my bud…. Also this is her first year so she is going to miss all of deer and duck camp and that is what I am struggling with the most. The reason she went to professional training is my ability and talent ran out and her trainer had an opportunity so I jumped on it…!!!!!! I don’t regret her going or getting the training just miss her is all.

I'd go visit my dog. Whether it is 1 day or 100 days. The trainers who say they don't want you visiting for the first x weeks, are full of themselves and they believe in a myth.

yep. That and the bond you make with a dog yourself will never be as good as one you send off.
