    Best Texas Getaways

Life has really kicked me in the nuts over the last month. between surgeries, brother in law on Hospice and about to pass, wife has medical issues we are working through we need to get away. What are your best Texas getaways. looking for anything 7-8 hours from Houston. flying is out of the question because we have blown our June and July budget on medial bills. no coastal stuff either gotta stayaway form the salt

I'd be close to water no matter what... too hot! Maybe Leakey, Gruene, Bandera? Some cool places to hang out and you can Dine and soak up some cool water while you're at it. If your wife is a shopper she'll love any of them.

I agree, and its still in Texas. If you don’t believe it, look at the vehicle license plates.

Cloudcroft for sure. However if you have a Southwest account I’d be willing to donate some points towards flights. I’ve got a ton I rarely use.

If it's the heat you're trying to get away from, as well as clearing the mind from the negativity this is what I'd do:

Travel to see and experience as many of these as I could in the given period of vacation

Pretty cool Idea. I do like road trips and we have been to most of the watering holes.

There are a couple of hotels with great views of lake Marble Falls in Marble Falls. Eat at the Bluebonnet Cafe. Opies BBQ in Spicewood. 45 -50 minutes to Fredericksburg.

Leakey, TX...my go to when I want to clear the mind. Get on Airbnb or VRBO and get a place right on the Frio River that has a good swimming hole. I just got back a couple weeks back. Found a very secluded place right on the Dry Frio (not Dry...good deep water) and it was a high fenced ranch all to ourselves.

Wife and I ended up at La Cantera Resort in San Antonio. We had a great relaxing time and would recommend this to anyone
