Why do some prefer longer ATA bows (33,34,35,36 etc) versus say the more compact Mathews XT? Seems a longer bow would be a bigger PITA in a stand or blind.
Finger shooters like'em longer cause there's much less "pinch" at full draw. The short bows are almost impossible to draw without a release - unless you can draw it with one finger.
I've heard this analogy...When walking a tightrope, would you rather be holding a toothpick or something longer that will help you stabilize for balance? To Each, His Own...Of Course!!!
I prefer slightly longer bows for their accuracy and stability, but in reality, the shooter's physical size should be the determining factor in how long their bow is.
Most of the top shooters are using bows between 38 and 43 inches axle-to-axle but a person that is 5 ' 3" shooting a bow 36 inches long would have about the same string angle as a 6 foot person shooting a 42" bow.
For instance, my preference is 35 or 36 inches but I am 5', 5" tall. A 37 inch bow seems long to me but short to a tall person with a long draw length that is used to shooting a 41" bow.

So at 5'5" Court, you have no problems in a blind shooting a longer bow while sitting down?
one of my bows is the mathews Q2XL 38" ata and there is no problem in the double bull or any tree i have sat in.i added a legacy 2 years ago to start going toward this short bow forcast and i think the 34" of the legacy is as short as i would like to go. with a shorter bow i have the idea in the back of my mind that it is toy-ish. i just cant seem to get focused.
