Are the new 33's any good? Specifically the drag. I need to upgrade my 6yo grandson before we to to the Cut

My son has caught a million fish on his, up to 6-7 Lbs. I upgraded the handle, and put it on a 6'6" Ugly Stick. If you put the boat on a bar, you can push it off with the Ugly Stick.

I have to say that new model 33 is a pretty good reel. An 18", a 22" and a 23.5" (released) all by a 6you. Got a lot of line twist because he just kept reeling while drag was being pulled.

I've tried and it was not a good outcome. Ended up cutting most of it out.

I tried putting braid on a spincaster too and it didn't work worth a flip.

I just got my grown daughter a new combo. Although the new ones are much different than the old ones it seems to work well so far. Drag is good!
