We have a friend that lives in Juneau and she said that most all the shops when you get off the boat are owned by the cruise lines. Alaskan made stuff will have apolarbear on the tag or something like that. We did excursions at every port. I was underwhelmed with the cruise portion of the trip after being on the land portion. It was a great experience.
Now that sounds like a blast. Thanks for sharing.

Bumping this back up. We are looking to do a 7 day cruise summer of 2025. I know 7 days is not long enough and we hope to make another trip some day.

If anyone has input on leaving from Seattle or Norwegian cruise line, would love to hear it.

Book your excursions when you book the trip Jordan! They good stuff fills up fast! We loved it. Went in 2007 pre kids. I wasn’t excited cause I figured it was a buncha old people shuffling to the feed trough 3x a day and it was but you woke up in a new port every day and got to go explore! It was super cool! I’ve wanted to go back since we left!

The train, binoculars, some form of pack to leave the boat with, balcony room, red dog sallon, go early and stay late to see Seattle. One port to shop while on the boat is the same as the rest. Save money and book excursions outside the boat. Anyone in the game will make arrangements. Even fishing. Find your suite host and make friends quick. They're worth a solid tip. Ours had all our laundry done the night before we flew home so we had nothing to wash when we got home.

          Seattle
          Duke's chowder house
          Pikes place
          The fish market
          Gum wall
Voodoo donuts (they are different in seattle, trust a cop)
          the needle
any harbor to see the boat
the stadium the mariners play in is LEGIT

All I can add to the above is the fish market is much, much smaller than you think. The line for the Needle was wayyyy too long for us. I’m not a fan of Seattle, lots of stoned out street people. It’s the first place I’ve seen a Walgreens with an armed guard😳. But, Alaska is amazing! We went in the summer of 2019.

Me and the wife are planning a trip for next year as well. Go out of Seattle or Canada?

If a GOF like you can enjoy it that makes me feel better. Already thinking if I can squeeze in a halibut fishing trip while there!

I am reading Seattle is easier (and cheaper flights) but Vancouver is more scenic at sea (less open water so smoother too). There is a train that runs from Seattle to Vancouver- takes about 4 hours but is supposed to be very scenic train ride. I'm debating this too since it would almost add an additional travel day so add hotel expense for a night.

We just got back but didn't do a cruise but talked to a lot of people that were on a Princess Cruise out of Vancouver that put them on a bus and took them to Denali and seen a few on the train to Fairbanks also.

We did one a while back and took a float plane out of one of the ports and caught salmon on fly rods in the bay. Not sure if it is still offered but it was a blast.

Looks like we are locked in with NCL on the Encore. 11 members in our crew from age 9 to 73!

In Juneau, there is (or was when we went) a helicopter ride to the top of glacier. Once on top, you dog sledded. Was quite fun
In Ketchikan, we did the zip line. It was great fun...if this is a family trip....all would enjoy. If no kids, I would say fish here. (This is my favorite little town!)
In Skagway, we did the Summit Excursion and Train Tour....while it was beautiful scenery, I would have picked something else a little more active.

I went on the cruise first.....I swore I would be back .... NOT by cruise. And I have been back multiple times. Alaska is an amazing place. The air is clean, the scenery is amazing, your blood pressure will fall, and all stress will be nonexistent there! Once you go, it gets in your blood, and you will want to go back!

                            Have fun!

About 6 years ago we went on a Holland America 14 day Ultimate Denali cruise and land tour. Left out of Vancouver, a week on the ship and a week on land, by bus and train. Then flew back from Fairbanks. We went on the last trip of the season. It was the first 2 weeks of September, weather was great.
It was an amazing trip! I highly recommend it.

If you start in Seattle, make sure your cabin is on the right side of the ship so you can view the shoreline. Enjoy the beauty of the scenery--
