I am looking to take my 12yo kiddo on her first dove hunt this year. She has been shooting very well at the clay range, so I think she is ready. Hopefully somewhere that typically has plenty of birds, we are open to pretty much anywhere. Any recommendations on oufitters or places to check into? TIA

My son and I are planning to do a Whitewing/ teal hunt on the weekend they overlap down in the valley. I don't have anyone lined up yet. Last year I booked early and then where I booked didn't have many birds and there were lots of places with last-minute openings with tons of birds. I'm gonna wait to book this year.

Check out craigslist, you can often find some gems of places on there. I've had numerous season leases over the years for about double what they charge for daily rates. I'd just be cautious about day lease areas because some of them just pack in as many hunters as they can and that isn't the type of place I'd want to take a kid or a first time bird hunter.

With the change in weather patterns the last 3 years or so, I just not finding White Wing weekend to be what it was 6/7 years ago. They just don’t seem to migrate til later. Maybe I’m just not getting the right place in the valley. Yes I belive a lot is on speculation, these guys spend money on getting a crop to grow, then there are just local birds that fizzle out after the first day and become educated quickly.

Id avoid opening weekend though, mid to late September and early October the hunting is still really good and there are far less people.
