Several years ago when we were both in a good mood, we agreed that we wouldn’t take it out on the other when in a bad mood. (sometimes we have to be reminded). When either one of us is in a bad mood, we let the other know and spend a little time figuring out why. Sometimes that involves us talking it out(her) and sometimes it involves spending a couple of hours apart(me). But we’ve found that it’s almost never our spouse’s fault, usually a work situation or tired/hungry that has us in a bad mood. I ask myself, will this matter in 5 days? No? Well, will it matter in 5 hours? No? How about in 5 minutes? No? Then why get mad about something that doesn't matter?
If it does matter, can you do anything about it? No? Then why get mad about something you cannot do anything about?
See, 99% is stuff that doesn't really matter or we cannot change. Being mad doesn't hurt the thing you are mad about. So just drink something cold and move along.
