Good for you BMO. You seem to be going at this the right way. Speaking from experience, if you can get with a competent person to teach you about Archery it can shave years off of your learning curve. It is very important to learn the basics the right way and establish good habits first instead of having to learn them through mistakes. Since you live in the DFW area there will be someone on here that can give you a few free lessons and help you with your set up. It doesn't take much and you will enjoy the experience much better. There is nothing better to shoot than a well tuned bow and nothing shoots like a well tuned bow. Good luck in your new addiction.

I can tell you what helped me when I first started shooting compound bows. I shot every tournament I could go to. It's the best practice there is. Your shooting will improve tremendously. I'm getting into traditional shooting so I'll be doing the same thing. I must warn you tournament shooting is addictive. Just like Lay's potato chips.
