New to bowhunting - into/noob questions

Hey everyone I've been lurking for a while and finally decided to jump into bows. I've been rifle hunting for a few years and now that I'm in my last semester of college I'm going to have more free-time to practice before bow season starts. I shot a couple of different bows at Cabela's and I think I'm going to get a PSE 3d stinger. Is this a good beginner bow or is there something else in that price range ($400) that would be better? I need something with a 27" draw and I want something around 50-60# so that I wont get tired practicing alot.

Also where is a good place to go in the DFW area to practice and get lessons? my family are all smokers so they stick to rifle hunting so they can smoke in the stand without spooking the deer. Therefore I have no one to teach me the do's and don'ts other than what I read online.

    Thanks.

If I were you I'd stay away from cabelas...basspro and go to a pro shop.

Def check out the mission bow line before you make up your mind. Just figure out the price you wanna spend and shoot all kinds of bows in that range. In the end it's what feels good to YOU and what YOU like and YOU shoot best!

And go to north Texas archery in farmersville, go talk to Fay he will hook you up. Awesome guy and knows his stuff no doubt! I wont go to anyone else.

And welcome to a new addiction!

          x2.

if you check the classified you should be able to find you a good used upper end bow fully rigged.

i bet it will not take much for someone in your area to help you out finding a bow and getting started

Cabela's and BassPro have high turnover in their employees and while some may know a little, many experience archery techs work in specialty shops. Stick with the specialty shops. You'll get better setups, better quality work and better advice from people who have been doing the job for Years, not weeks.

And Welcome to the Green Screen!

Cinnamon Creek Ranch is a awesome pro shop and 3d shooting range. Give them a call to see if they have some bows for your draw and price range.
I'd deal with them before I ever thought about letting someone from cabelas or bass pro put a hand on my bow. (already had an experience with that) just saying.

Lol I went to a proshop first to see if i could get my brothers bow adjusted to me... but its a 80# 33" draw and i need a 27" 50-60#. The people at the proshop actually told me to go to cabela's to try out different rigs.

Do yal know any places that give lessons in the arlington-ftw area?

Im not saying that a pro shop isn't the best. I go to Faye for anything and everything that I need help with, he taught me just about everything I know about archery and working on bows. I send alot of customers to him instead of not mentioning him and selling them one of the bows we carry just to make the sale. I work retail based on customer service, not sales. Something that alot of ppl seem to forget about.
O yea, and I work at Cabelas.

BMO, if you are looking at the Cabela's in fort worth, do yourself a huge favor and go to Cinnamon Creek. They are only about 10 min from Cabela's. Go in there and ask for Dyrum, even of he isn't there anyone can help you. Great people. They are a site sponsor so you can get there ph # from home page.

Good luck and welcome to the green screen. As far as finding someone to shoot with, get on here and ask, there is always someone who will lend a helping hand and would love to shoot with you.
