    Stained and scored concrete floor

Does anyone have any experience with this. What are price considerations for 16" cuts and pros and cons? Thanks.

I like the looks of it but I have heard some contractors won't touch it because of too many problems. I would like to be enlightened as well because I would consider doing this in the future if not too many problems.

Usally the pricing on this is as much as standard flooring in a house. Meaning you do not save much money unless you do it yourself. Which it can be done farely cheap and easy. The cons about doing this is surface cracks in your slap and keeping it clean before you do it....ie, you can not have any chalk lines or greasy spot on you slab...which make it hard on your builder. Now if you do all your cutting and dying first then you need to keep the entire floor covered with plastic the whole time the house is being built....again makes a tough time for the builder. Good side is if done right looks great, also cheap if done yourself, also if your don't like it later on you can add conventional flooring with out any problems.

We have some friends that did it and covered there floor with roofing felt to keep from marking it up. It looks great by they had it scored with some different designs and colors. They have about $5 a foot invested into it.

What are you thinking about doing? Just acid stain or scoring as well?

My wife and I have be talking about do this. Our house is 10 years old now and if there is any surface cracks do you really see them. We were thinking about making it look like a wood floor.

There used to be a really good DIY thread on here (by Trey, aka TexCattleman) but that was BC (before crash).

I did mine a few years back and we loved it at first but it's harder to maintain than I thought it'd be. My wife also spilt some Kilz on it (nearly 1/2 gallon) so we're going to cover it with wood when we list the house.

I was thinking about stain- a light tan with 16" scores- probably about 1200 sf. Nothing fancy.

I checked out your website and she is looking good.

I can lay tile and wasn't sure if it would be about the same price if I laid tile over the concrete.

Had my garage floor stained and sealed a couple of years ago. Looks great. At an older house i used the garage floor paint. The stain looks better in my opinion. The price was $2.70 per square foot. Takes a few days to do the work and need some dry warm weather to do it.

Kara and I did our dining room and it turned out perfect, in our estimation. As Tinman mentioned, I documented exactly how we did it and included pictures of the results. They can be found here...
