How precise are you on your draw length?

A few questions for you guys:
1. For those that know your draw length, and might be a little bit in between, do you set you bow at 29 3/4" if you know that is your draw length, or do you make do with 29 1/2"?

2. If you take it in for new strings, and it comes back short on draw length, measuring 29 1/4" do you have the shop fix it or accept it?


3. Should a bow shop be able to set a 29.5 inch bow to 29 5/8" or 29 3/4" or is that asking too much?

4. Should a bow shop be able to customize your bow to fit you, or just accept getting it close because they don't carry that brand (PSE)?

I am very comfortable with a 29" DL. I have utilized a kisser button for all my compounds.

However, I shot a 30" DL bow for many years and killed many animals from Canada to Mexico to South Africa. Kisser button was about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inches above the nock point. I was very comfortable with it too.

My 29" DL kisser button location is about 3/4" above the nock point. I think that shorter is better and that the closer you get the bow to your true DL the better overall you will shoot.

Having a bow shop be able to micro adjust could work but I am not sure that it would be valued labor for the average shooter.

I shoot a 28" draw bow with an exact 5/8" D loop measured from the back of the string to the inside of the loop.

My measured draw legnth is 28.8" however I shoot a 29" draw very comfortably. I was always told it is better to be a little too short than a little too long though.

My draw is too long. I will be replacing modules this year to shorten.

I wont shoot to long.

I will shoot shorter though.

I like 29", but will shoot 28.5 with a D-loop no problems. but if I go over that then I wont shoot consistant.

The shop should be able to work with you and get the draw where it needs to be for you, regardless of the brand of bow. Sometimes it involves tweaking string stops if the cams have them, and twisting/untwisting the string or cables some.

I set my DL to where it needs to be. Not long with a short loop, or short with a longer loop. That only changes anchor points, ot actual DL. New strings may draw out right but still feel different because of a change to your anchor from the loop not being identical as nefore. And if the loop stretched any over time it will feel different for a while.

String adjustments generally take longer than any other part of setting up a bow IMO because there is a lot more to it that just setting ATA and brace height.

28" + a D-loop. I can tweak it on my draw stop but it will also mess with my let off.

How do you know if you have a 28.75" draw length. Most bows come with either 1" draw length or .5" settings. I guess you can tweak a bow by adding twists in the string but I doubt you will notice it. When you put new strings on your bow, how do you know the draw length has changed .25"s

If they don't carry that brand, how will they be able to adjust the draw length if modules are needed. If you take them the necessary equipment needed, they should be able to do it.

No modules needed, taking a few twists out of the bowstring would accomplish the task, but have been told by the "pro shop/ bow shop" that they won't do that.

After years of checking draw length and checking how I shoot with current draw lengths I know what I shoot best with, just wish I had a press that worked with the PSE x force.

The problem I have is last time they gave it back to me with one cable out of the groove and draw length was .25" shorter than spec., so I ended up with a bow setup that was about a half inch short.

I would think a bow shop would be eager to go the extra mile if someone was willing to pay for it.....

Measure your draw legnth (finger tip to finger tip divided by 2.5). Mine comes out to 28.8 ". I shoot a 29 " draw bow. If I were closer to 28.5 I would shoot a 28.5 vs. being "too long" at 29".

10-4, but I use that as a way to get you close. same as the draw length bows.
