Is it ILLEGAL to transport wild hogs ?

Friend and I were talking the other day and began a debat on what we have heard on the subject of these trappers moving wild hogs around parts of Texas.
Does anyone know the facts on :

1.) Do the hog trappers need a license to trap and move ?

2.) What if the hogs are going to a meat processing facility or ranch. Does that facility of ranch need a permit to accept hogs ?

3.) If it's one of those high fence ranches, do they need some kind of permit ? I thought they have to be approved as being a "secure facility" of some sort. Proving their fences can contain the hogs.

4.) Who would regulate and enforce such rules ? Game wardens or local pd ?

Very curious about the whole thing... if anyone knows online resources.. post em up! thnks

It has now been several years since I was catching hogs but I was told that you cannot transport live feral hogs across the county line unless they have a health certificate from a vet. But I doubt anyone ever gets checked.

That's similar to what I've heard. I think you have to take them to a liscensed plant to get them looked at first.

There was a local story on the news a few days ago. Can see it here:

I think this pretty much sums it up. Very clear and to the point.

            Thanks for posting.

              A young, 50-pound sow ... what a fine way to grace a BBQ grill ... mmm-good.

Texas animal health commission comes and inspects and approves our hunting business every month.

It is only legal to transport a live wild hog from where it was trapped if it is headed directly to an approved buyer.

I found this interesting in the "Capture Techniques" section!! Lol!!!

"Feral hogs are not considered wildlife and are not classified as a game species in Texas. Instead, this exotic species is considered free-ranging livestock. Feral hogs and their damage are the responsibility of the landowner where they are found. As a result, landowners spend considerable time and money in attempt to manage these animals."

The TAHC regs sum up the state regs but there are also federal Regs involved if you move them across state lines you are violating Federal Regulations unless they are going directly to an approved slaughter plant.

It is not illiegal to transport hogs in the state of texas. but they have to be kept in a approved pen or a pen that is escape proof. If you are transporting to sell the pen is not your responsibility.
