    How low is too low?

So, how low can you shoot one?
This 2 year old spike was not fast enough but he evidently tried to duck and roll away from the shot. My point of aim was low in the crease and this is where it hit. He was slightly quartering away and I was shooting from an elevated spot, about 8ft above at 15 yds. My old Switchback ain't that fast but it made there in time. The Slick Trick did it's thang as usual and cut thru 3 ribs and part of the breast bone before angling up poking a hole in the pump. Wierdest hit I have ever had on a deer. Blood trail was the best and most profuse I have ever had. Believe it or not this deer made it over 400 yds before going down with the arrow still in him. I couldn't get the arrow back out so I hauled it to the skiing pole and removed it when I dressed it out. 2 days before extended season ended and I got number 4 for the year.
Better to be lucky than good

That is one of the great advantages of a fixed blade broadhead; if it doesn’t pass through, the broadhead does more and more damage with every step the deer takes….

Looks like he definitely helped you by rolling away. I'll take that kinda luck all day..

How low is too low? If ya miss! Anything about an inch above a just miss is vital area, just the breast bone is all that's done there.

Lower than a center punch on the lungs is to low for me.

That thing sure did some damage. I got my dad that exact same gut-hook knife for Christmas. He hasn't had a chance to try it out yet. How do you like it?

The knife has some really hard metal and takes while to sharpen but will get scary sharp and stay sharp. The gut hook part needed to be sharpened as well as the blade cutting edge. The balance is good and it works really good for skinning. I have done 2 deer with it so far and haven't needed to re-sharpen.

Amazing that the critter went 400 yards. Good shot.

More than once I've shaved a notch off the ol breastbone trying to aim low. Now I just try to aim for low center on the lungs. Sometimes they duck, sometimes they don't.

Congrats on the meat! I'd say things went just the way they were supposed to go.
