Oryx, is there more than one kind?

OK I was trying to explain to a coworker what an oryx looked like, googled it and got pics of an animal that is white with rust colored neck and long horns that curve back (what I thought an oryx looked like) and then there were pics of a tan animal with black and white facial markings and it has horns that are straight and kind of make a narrow V (what I thought was a gemsbok)

So are both some kind of oryx or is one misidentified?

There is also about 3 other kinds.
The Oryx prefers hot & arid environments such as steppes, deserts and semi deserts. They are well adapted to cope with the extremely hot climate

There are several. The scimitar horned oryx and the gemsbok are probably the most well known. I know there is also a fringed oryx and an arabian oryx and maybe others.

I think the arabian is also called a besia oryx.

Yes there are several oryx. I know a great place to hunt one if you are interested, but better hurry, they are about to be endangered in their native country.

They do look alike but the stripe on the side is different. That guy I gave you the number for with the BB has both. They are pretty neat.

Here is the version of Oryx/Gemsbock listed in the Animals of Africa digest.

You have the Oryx of the Beisa race (O. g. beisa), the Oryx of the Fringed ear race (O. g. callotis), Oryx of the Gemsbock race (O. g. gazella) and then you have the Scimitar-horned Oryx, Scimitar Oryx or the White Oryx (oryx dammah).

                            Beisa Oryx
                            Fringed Ear Oryx
                            Oryx of the Gemsbock race
                            Scimatar Horned Oryx.
