What bow for 13 year old boy?

I have a friend looking to buy an entry level hunting bow for his son...any suggestions out there? He'll probably shoot a lot more target than hunting but wants a hunting bow. Not sure how strong he is but probably average for his age and is about 5ft.2in. tall.

I was looking at the PSE Nova, Diamond Edge, and the PSE Whitetail Extreme but not sure if I'm on target (parden the pun) or if there are some better deals on better equipment out there you guys might be aware of. He lives in Houston as well. Thanks!

I forget which bow it is, but you can send the limbs in for a heavier weight as they get stronger. Might look into that because at 13 yo it is possible for him to outgrow a bow pretty quickly

Hard to beat the Diamond edge package. I think they will go all the way to 28" and 60 #'s. All of the accessories in the Edge package are of good quality. I know of a 12 yr old that just bought the edge with 60# limbs. My newphew who is 11 just got the Bowtech Equalizer with 60# limbs. NBoth of these boys have been shooting since about 6 yrs old. For your friends son he may need the 50# limbs to start and they will back off to about 39-40#'s.

I just bought my 6 yr old the Edge for Christmas and I bought him the 29# limbs and then backed it to 20# @ 18" and he had no problem shooting it.

Btw, you can upgrade the limbs to the next heavier set for about $40. The Browenings, Parkers, Diamonds, Pearsons all have the same deal. Lets the bows grow with the kids.

Diamond now has the rock but its pretty close to the Edge. Thats the one I would look at. The Nova is a good one but not sure it will go down far enough.

I got my son an 60# AR35. Then I ordered 50# limbs for it.

He has alot of growing room!

He killed his first deer with it last year.

              Diamond Edge Package

I purchased a Diamond Edge for my 10 yr old grandson. First three shots on the deer target were right in the kill zone.

Here's a link to a great package deal. Prompt service and the bow came ready to shoot.

Parker has a "Grow Up with Parker" program. The limbs and modules will be replaced for $49.95 as he outgrows them, BUT the bows included in this program only go up to 50#s. The BuckShot, Challenger and Contender are included in the program.

I've heard good things about the Diamond Edge. Also, the Browning Micro Midas IV is a very forgiving bow.

Have him shoot several of the bows to see which one fits him best. Good luck!

thanks for all your help. I found out this morning he picked up the PSE Nova on sale at BassPro and couldn't wait (like me when I was 12 years old). Thanks for all the good comments - very helpful indeed.
