    scope recommendation needed

I just bought a 375 H&H magnum and need some advice on a scope. I plan on hunting bear this spring and have Africa on my bucket list but will normally use it for big pigs out to a couple hundred yards or more if possible. I'm thinking leupold but nothing over $600 for right now. Will a good leupold hold up to the recoil or should I look at some others? Also, what power and objective size would you go with. Thanks for the advice.

well i aint no gun guru but i can give you my advice. a higher end ;eupold should be fine. as far as magnification and objective lens. how far u planning to shoot bear and what game are you planning on taking in africa. if ur dealing with close shots id say out to 100, id go with one of those low power small objective scopes. something easier to throw up and shoot a lil faster. especially in africa with dangerous game. if ur planning on like plains game and stuff. maybe a solid 3-9x40. should be all the power and objective u need. and can mount it low which imo. makes it handle recoild better. but i aint no expert.

Take a look at the Vortex Viper 4x16x50. Its in your price range and has very good reviews

          Nikon buckmaster 4-14x 40mm

Great scope, and great in low light conditions.

jlptexashunter has got it right and similar would work. The ballistics chart (scroll to the bottom of the page) will give you the idea that 300-400 yards is going to be challenging

That's more like it for Africa.
You want something with a more broad range in magnification.
Africa is one of the places where you spot and stock. High magnification optics will get lost looking down the throat.

You want something in the 1-?x? range.
                Leupold's 1-6 (VX-6)
                Vortex Viper HS 1-4
                SWFA SS 1-4
                Trijicon 1-4
                Swarovski 1-4

Those are going to work very well for spot in stalk.

I work at SWFA, and if you need any help, or have any questions, email me your telephone number and I'll call you tonight.

Oh and almost everything will hold up to a 375 now days.
Most manufacturers engineer their optics to withstand the most abusive calibers.
                        338, 50, 375, 458 lott and ect.

The Leupold VX3 1.5-5X24 and 1.75-6 both seem to be really popular for African stuff. You might want to consider a 2-7 power as well.
