Was invited to my buddy's lease this weekend 20 miles North of Laredo. Saw more deer and more big deer than I have ever seen in my life. 4000 acres of low fence heaven. After two close encounters on on Saturday morning with does, I arrowed this buck at 34 yards Saturday evening. First bow kill ever. What a rush. I admit the shot wasn't perfect. My bow had been in the back of the Ranger while we rode around all day and my buddy's dog had been laying on it. Pretty sure my pins were off as I shot and missed underneath this buck at 40 yds 5 min before killing him. Arrow bounced 5 feet in front of him. I thought I was just nervous, but to miss that bad??? Found out later the 40 and 30 yd pins were off. Anyway, He made it about a half a mile before piling up. Slick Tricks did leave a blood trail that we never lost though.

Found the shaft 300 yds into the thickest mesquite jungle one can imagine. Had to crawl on hands and knees multiple times. Autopsy revealed 6 inches of solid penetration. Pulled this out in 3 pieces.

God's Country

So many deer!
