    Questionabout getting spare car key

I am interested in getting a spare key for a 2007 Silverado Z71. A friend told me I have to go to the dealership to do this because the key has a Microchip it it. I looked at the key and below the plastic 'handle' there is a plus sign in a circle on both sides.
Does this mean Home Depot can't make me a key? Thanks

You may check walmart. Ours could do them for around $50 or so. But our walmart closed and a new one opened. Dont know if they do it there.

In a lot (or all) of cars the chip key is not needed to get in the door but only to start the vehicle. A $2 key from anywhere will get you in the door in case you lock the keys inside. I carry s spare door key in my wallet.

I do the same, but I will add what a locksmith told me. You can use the cheap key to get in the door, but DO NOT try to use it to start the truck. It won't start and it "kills" the chipped key so it won't work either.
