    Modular Cabin Search

I'm an ex-Kansan and we have 2 properties up there.
Our Cabin on a river is on leased ground and we've been there since 1976. The age of the cabin plus random weather disasters has pretty much left the cabin ready for razing. The landowner at 92 years of age has a family whose intentions are not clear as to whether or not the leases will continue. Those rumors are 10+ years old. One of the landowners Step Sons has leased the 400+ acres to a guy from Louisiana for deer. That doesn't bother me but the locals respond with increased poaching, trespassing, and theft. The locked gate means nothing.
So, I'm thinking of razing the cabin and sliding in a modular unit. I simply can't find a builder of such a cabin in that area of the planet. Extreme SE Kansas.
All I need is a bed room, kitchen, 1 bedroom, and a living area. Just me and the wife and maybe some grandkids. I like the idea of a modular (wooden) structure so I can add security bars. Plus I can pull it out of there if need be.
When I retire within the next 2 years I need a place to ripen.
Any ideas to locate a manufacturer?

I've thought about getting something like the Morgan buildings or something similar. If my math is right, I think I can have a pretty nice little cabin for under $5K. It would probably sleep 6 people if you are friendly with each other, have sink, stove, porcelain throne, etc... Basic living essentials. My other thought which would be even cheaper is to get one of those carports like you see on the side of the road or at Wally World and finish putting steel the rest of the way down. Might not be quite as sturdy, but keep the snow off anyway. I think with a little insulation it could be very comfortable for not much money. It wouldn't be quite as mobile as one of the prefab buildings.

You might consider having a metal building built. Mueller has a 24'x24' kit for about $4000. Once it's closed in you can take your time having it framed in and finished out. With metal you won't have to worry about termites, water damage or fire.

The shelter-kits look like they would be pretty nice once set up.

I have a 12 x 24 building at our place in OK. It is made out of insulated steel doors. Very strong and weather resistant. You could easily convert one into a living quarter. They are small enough to trailer to your site. Good luck.

I like the mueller steel building idea, and just finish out the inside. Only problem would be portability.

The shipping containers could be a viable option too for what you're looking for.

Here's a link to a thread i posted a few weeks ago about a shipping container...
