    Leupold RX-II Range Finder

Question for those of you who use/own an RX-II.

Have any of you experienced any issues with the RX-II in low light conditions?
What about ranging dark objects (i.e. black 3-D targets, trees, etc...)?
How does it work for long ranges objects (i.e. 100-200 yard range)?

I have one and had not had any issues other than getting it to work with the True Ballistics Range. I changed some of the settings and can not get it back to work. Probably operator error.

I use it for 250+ yards all the time.

I own one and like it except trying to range in really low light. I tried to range a 3-D bear that was hidden fairly well and it was not sunny that day. Didn't get a range on him...
Deer hunting I haven't had to use it early or late as I already had marked trees and such... No deer either but that's another story.

A couple points to remember about these Leupold RX models... first of all, they will range in pitch black dark, but unless you can get the range and then look at a lighted background before the range display disappears, you can't see what it is reading. Second, if you have it set for one of the bow ranges (A,B,or C), it will not range long distance items. I think it maxes out at about 60 yards. To range long range items, you have to turn off the bow mode completely.

I got the RX III because it has a backlit display so I could use it in the dark, and it works pretty good. I hope to use on night time hogs after deer season closes.

My experience with mine is that it is more sensitive than the Nikon or Bushnell range finders that I have. It locks on in about half the time as the others, and other than finding out the hard way that it will not range long distances when in the bow mode, I have really enjoyed mine. Don't know how long the battery lasts, but I have worn the packaging out in my back pack carrying around a spare battery for mine, so I guess it's lasted pretty good for the past 2 years.

I have issues with any black object, including 3-D targets, black barrels, tree stumps. I can't seem to get a good reading on them. I have tested every setting with regards to the TBR settings all with similar results. Now, if I pull out my RX-I all is good.

Only problem I have had ranging with my RX II is p-dogs past 350-400yds. I really haven't used it in low-light conditions to date. I try and have bow ranges predetermined when hunting from a stationary position. I will try it this weekend in low light to see how it does.

I love mine and have had no issues, once I had my 9 year old explain the directions to me.

Thorson, you might want to contact Leupold on that. I used mine to set up my 3D targets at known ranges. Mine works on a turkey and black boar target. I've also ranged electrical poles (the black creosote kind) on some power lines to find out how far apart the poles are. Heck, half the time when I'm bow hunting in a new area, I hit grass clumps and even small crawfish mounds... Sounds like yours might need to be serviced or replaced.

My experience with Leupold customer service has been limited to a couple scopes over the years, but it was excellent...

I have the same ranging problems with mine. seems it needs a good reflecting surface or something. It won't range one tree but will the next. if you figure it out please e-mail me!
