What makes a axis and blackbuck a trophy?

I'm a lifelong whitetail hunter and have never messed with anything else. I was invited to hunt axis and blackbuck antelope this weekend and want to educate myself before hunting. What do I look for in these animals?

Generaly a blackbuck with three spirals is around 18 inches long is considered a good one. Axis need to have atleast 3 points on each side with decent length but rarely have more then 4. But really a trophy is in the eye of the beholder.

18 inches or more for a mature BLACK, blackbuck. 30" or more for an axis buck. Of course, anything killed with a bow is a trophy to me.

This has got to be my favorite trophy to date. 136 lb axis doe. 42 yards shot thru a 6 inch hole in the limbs! Memories of the hunt, not the size, make the trophy!

        My axis

This is my axis buck. He is a trophy to me but not a monster.

30"+ on the Axis (got it)
20"+ on the BB (easy for me to say, I have a 21" and a 23")

                YMMV...

When you see a trophy of either one you will know it as soon as you see them. The wow factor

                              This is my trophy axis...

Unfortunately, I was at Bar E a week early and when I had him broadside at 8-yards, he was tipped out but still in velvet and thus off-limits...so a week later, he rode home in Paul's truck instead.

                              Congrats again, Paul.
