I personally am considering a towing/recovery service. I have got to get out of my line of work within 5 years. It's going down the tubes.

If I were you I might hire a broker and put it in stocks and bonds.

How? I've thought about this but how can you do it if the company does not have stock?

And if they do have stock have you looked into any?

Easier to say which sector is rolling in the money than to actually invest in something..or to find a company within that sector to invest in.

The best way is to know the right people and get in on the ground floor

Right, but that would be a start up and you would be a partner. That would take a lot of time.

I was thinking the OP (and I was as well) was looking for a place to invest (not work at) money.

                          Oil not gas right now
We are invested in gas and things aren't looking good right now and they haven't been for a while

You can buy into businesses even though they are off the ground as well even if they are not publically traded.

Friend A goes to Freind B and Freind C (who own a chemical trucking company together) and says I have $100k I would like to put into your company in exhchange for a proportionate amount of ownership. Freind B and freind C say perfect we have been needing to purchase some more equipment and your $100k would do us good in that process. Our company is worth $1,000,000 so we will exchange your $100,000 for a 10% ownership in the company. Freind A, Freind B, Freind C all go to the lawyer that created their company in the first place and have he/she add the new 10% owner in the company and pay the required fees to do so.

Put it in the bank, take some time to figure out what you could do to maximize it, ideally something that you are familiar with and or involoved with allready. Don't invest with friends or family, it could save you a lot of grief down the road, good luck.
