I did it, but was it illegal?????

Ok guys, I need some help. Let's just say things aren't great at work, and you have a heated meeting with the boss. Now, this boss has a bad rep for treating employees/talking to employees like their little kids and with no respect at all. So ya have this meeting and it just so happened to be recorded by a handy iPhone without the knowledge of this so called "boss". Ok move forward a day and this boss now wants to mess with you and play games cuz you did not like how you were being talked to and didn't just lay down and take it, hence got an attitude, and switches your work schedule cuz he is mad. Now the recording can come in handy but, was it legal to do?

not sure. Need a lawyers advice. I believe in some states yes, you only need permission from one party (which you have....you) to record a conversation. But, in other states you need permission from both parties (which you don't have). It would definitely be something you'd want someone with local legal knowledge on to weigh in on.

Yes it is legal. Only one party in the recording has to know they are being recorded and thats you. Nothing wrong with it at all.

Your were recording the meeting just in case you forgot something important that was said....... that's what I got out of the post

I think in Texas if one of the people being recorded (I.E. you) knows that they are being recorded, you do not need consent of any others. But, I'm not 100%.

Yes, in Texas, as long as one party is aware of the recording, you are good to go.

Example, if another recorded you and your boss talking, and toy two knew nothing of it, illegal. Now, you may have a company policy against it, but that is not criminal.

I would think the question is what you intend to use the recording for. If your talking about bringing it to your boss's boss, then thats a whole seperate matter than if you're going to try and use it in court. Plus if you are going to try and use it in court, I think you have more important issues to worry about. Either way, I would be careful about using it for blackmail although he does seem like a p r i c k.

It is legal however most companies have policies against recording coworkers and could get you in trouble.. Check company policy
