I have a pair of Pronghorns and Danner GTX. I hardly ever wear the pronghorns bowhunting for elk in NM. They are too warm.
I like a lower hiker style for early season and the gtx is awesome. No problems with ankle support, etc....I van literally wear them all day everyday they are that comfy.

Boots can be such a subjective thing because everyone's foot is different. I agree with a3dhunter/Ladrones and it is my opinion that Danners are on the low end of quality/durability for use in semi rugged to rugged terrain. For Elk hunting Colorado I would be looking at real hiking/mountaineering boots. Lowa, Kenetrek, Asolo, Crispi and Cabela's boots made by Miendel are a few, very good Manf.
A few things you want to make sure is that you have enough ankle support, volume(width) and length. My first year Elk hunting I wore Vasque Summit GTX...a fair boot but was a mid and did not provide enough ankle support for sidehilling. The volume was not enough. They fit nice and snug at home and on mild hikes but what I did not take into account was that your feet swell when you do hard hiking...I should have had a wide. Length is important as well as downhilling can really reek havok on your toenails. You should be able to wiggle your toes in the toebox.
My favorite boots are Lowa Tibets. They are awesome! If you find the right discount codes they can be had off shoebuy.com for a little more than $200 shipped. I think that's about the same price as Chinese Danner and Lowa boots are far better than any Danner boots.
I use duct tape for hot spots instead of Moleskin...its allot handier and works just as good. Just take a stick and wrap a yard or so around it...stick it in your pack.
Don't forget Merino Wool socks as well. The trick to avoid blisters is to get the moisture away from your skin. Forget Cotton or you will be very sorry.

No doubt! My trainer runs the 100 mile Leadville trail race in a pair of asic wrestling shoes. Almost like a fat dude like me walking ten miles in some pronghorns. I feel much better after 10-15 miles with a pair of Asolo sassalongs, lowa renagades or if in colder weather some lowa hunter gtx's.

I have had a few pair of Danners, they are a good boot no question about it, but if you want a great boot take a look at Miendel's (sp), I have two pair now for 6 years, they have been from Texas to Alaska twice, once to Yukon Territories, twice to New Mexico, twice to Colorado and God knows where else, I can't wear them out, you can go to the mountains with them right out of the box, no problems, best dadgum boot I have ever seen.
