Question about CHL classes - instruction first?

My 22 year old son is about to buy his first pistol with the goal of getting his CHL. He has shot pistols some in the past but does not have a tremendous amount of experience with them. I'm thinking he should take a basic pistol skills course of some kind first, where he'd get both safety and shooting instruction. (I think Elk Castle here in Ft Worth offers this) My question - the CHL class pretty much just covers the laws, right?

Yes, a little safety is involved though not the majority of the class

It is basically all law book. If he really wants to get a lot of pistol training, he needs to take a seperate class.

Look up Tiger Valley and the do a force on force class. It will really open his eyes to different situations.

Yup. He can get both basic pistol training if he desires plus his CHL at the same location. They have a really nice facility.
