Why would you own a dog and

just let him live out his days tied up in the backyard with no interaction. It really PO's me when I see it. Some folks use animals as a sign of prestige. Pits, Rots, Mastiffs, etc., are all represented in my neighborhood. These animals have a meager existence. How is that fair. A pet is meant to have interaction. Dogs are Mans best friend, I thought. Livestock are supposed to be different because their brains are not as intuitive as a dog's. A dog can have separation anxiety. Maybe that is why the Lab behind me, in the little yard, day and night, is always barking. "Somebody come play with me or put me out of my misery", is all I hear.

Very true, I don't know how people can do that to a dog.

Then they are surprised when the dog becomes antisocial and bites somebody. Makes me sick when I see a dog chained out all day with no human attention.

I tell poeple I have a great dane dane and they ask....you must have a big back yard. I tell them she is an inside dog. The jaws start a dropping. 125# lap dog. She gets better treatment than my 3 kids. but she doesn't bring home a report card.

I'm right there with you. When I see a dog chained up, it makes me want to go up to the owner's double wide and give him an ear full but I do my best to mind my own business. Ain't always easy though. I've learned to brush things off over the years because if I wanted to, I could be complaining about something every day of my life. I've knocked it down to just every other day.

...just like some people shouldn't have kids. But that's a whole other issue.

Ours 2 dogs are a big part of our daily life. I sometimes take them for granted but I suppose they like it here. We have no fence and they have the option of leaving anytime they want.

you just described our history of dog ownership to a T (minus them being chained up). That is why we don't own dogs anymore. There is no animal out there that I could love enough to have a desire to forego my time with my family in the afternoons to go outside and play with it and give it the interaction/training that I am sure it would like to have. From now on I am leaving the dog ownership to those who love dogs and consider them a part of their family

Like this one!! How is that prestige now? The dog is too feeble to do anything.

The interaction of the family with an outside dog is a huge factor, but then you have to take into account most of the POS leave their animals out all year. Be it 109 F or 20 F.

Because they grow up and no longer are puppies.

                              Here's a twist for ya.

I love dogs, but I do not love other peoples dogs, and will not tolerate other's dogs roaming my property,

                              so

                              here's the twist

                              I live in the country.
My son has two dogs (anatolian shepherds), and they are wanderers big time.

These dogs are chained on a cable run, and that is the only way he will keep them here. They do get daily attention, and are very sweet good natured dogs.

I figure other folks don't like my dogs roaming their property anymore than I like their's roaming mine.

                              Let the hatin begin. 8^)

                              Rick

                              EDIT:

                              Oh, and P.S.

I'm one of the POS that leaves the dogs outside all year long.
They have shelters, and they do just fine.
Dogs are animals. Animals are not people, people.
They are very capable of living outside.
