What scope

So the wife told me I could get a scope for Christmas. What is your favorite scope? I am thinking I want the leupold VX-3L 6.5x20 (I think that's right)

Not that quality glass is ever a waste of money. But if that's it's primary use I'd probably throw a zeiss conquest on top and call it good.

Buy a pistol with the rest

I was also thinking about getting a new rifle. Mainly for deer hunting maybe some coyote hunting.

Swarovski and don't look back. I'm not sure if they are still on sale but the Z3 Swarovskis were on sale for $1k or less.

The best thing to do is look at them and see which you like best. I have always bought leupold brand, but branched out to Nikon. I was really impressed with them. Everyone is going to have a different opinion. I would get some of the ones that are said to be the best and then play with them in the store and see what you like best. Most with the good names are going to be good scopes.

Vortex make great scopes. unconditional lifetime warrenty. Crystal clear glass. most models have illumminated reticles.

I just bought a used 6x24 50mm Viper PST tacticle scope with illuminated rec for 800 on longrange hunter site classifieds.

Another vote for Vortex. I shoot a Viper PST on my competition rig for 3 Gun but based on that I recommended two of my friends look at them for some longer range stuff. After doing their independent comparisons, both came to the conclusion that the Vortex scopes had the best features for the money and the glass was fantastic.
