Smarts post is spot on. Real ducks don't shine. In years past, many decoys were hard plastic and had an unnatural shine to them. I would mist them with flat black spray paint.
The dekes just lure them in. When they put their boots out.....it is too late. Flashy decoys are marketing for hunters. Don't sweat the small stuff.
