What to do with elk hide?

In my avatar is the picture of the 4x5 elk I killed off an high fence place this season. I have had the head european mounted and still have the hide in the freezer. The place I had it processed at wants 800.00 to have it tanned. Anyone know what I should do with it? I really didn't want to spend 800.00. What would you do with it?

There is a place in Denton that did an axis hide for me for $35.
I will try to find their info.

Unless you really want an Elk Pelt on your wall I would consider making a garment with it.
      Glove, Vest etc...

I would say hair off around $100 and hair on $200 for the pelt.

$800 sounds more like the price for a bear rug.

This may be too far for you but in San Antonio these guys have done a great job for me on axis hides at a good price.

Premiere sheepskin tannery that sources lambskin to produce luxurious sheepskin products.

Double nickel taxidermy in new braunfels makes some awesome crosses out of the hide. Forgot to ask the price when I was in there today.
