gun purchase law question

ok here is the situation....
i was in academy tonite, saw the little snake charmer 410 for a smokin price and decided to get one....filled out the paperwork which i have done dozens of times, and handed it over....guy said i did it backwarkds....sure enough, all the boxes i checked yes on i should have checked no....honest mistake, i have done alot of em and normally dont read them due to this, but between talkin to my brother and the guy workin there, i messed up....i thought , no big deal, ill do a new one....he then became the biggest smart arse i have ever met (rivaled me in my teens) and told me i cannot purchase a weapon from academy for 30 days or forever, he isnt sure....i was MAD..i have seen numerous times were people screwed up and they just did a new one....he said it was final and he was filing it and just smiled..i spoke with the manager who was also a smart arse..
i made a mistake, and if it is a law like they were telling me were they cant sell me a gun(regardless if i got several there before or not) if i checked the boxes wrong....honest mistake!! so is that true? you cant just redo the paperwork? if i was really a felon they would deny me when they called it in....its pretty simple, i think the guy was just tryin to be an ***....he accomplished his mission

If you fill out the form 'wrong', you can't just change it to make it 'right'



Makes perfect sense to me. They deal with a lot of jack asses (not that you're one ) on a daily basis. How many tries do you get?

Yup. Screw up on a question and its a no go. The most common one to have to lie about or mess up on is the one that asks if you are buying the gun for someone else. If its a gift you have to lie. Its dumb if you ask me. Like anybody would answer those truthfully if they were true.

I hate dealing with the people that work at academy. But you did feel out the paper work incorrectly. I would go somewhere else.

the paper work is all a joke i worked at one of the academy in houston and there is no telling how many guns i sold to people that more than likely lied on the paper work and got away with it, several people got denied by the feds when i did the call in...

Regarding a gift, it is just that. You are purchasing the weapon and then deciding to "gift" it to someone else. That is your perogative. No need to feel like you are lying. However, if a guy gives you cash $$ in the parking lot and tells you to go buy him a specific weapon and keep the change, that is purchasing it for someone else.

You are buying the weapon with your $$ not someone else's. If you decide to give it away, that is completely legal.

Regarding the paperwork, it's a Federal Form, you need to take your time filling it out. Sorry for the inconvenience in this case. I am not sure that all the stores are linked for denial but if he ran it to the Feds, there is a good chance you will be red flagged. However, if you have a CCL, that may make the problem a little easier to repair.

I don't think they can deny you a purchase in the future but I think they have to deny the sale for some period of time

im not worried about gettin it....i can have my wife fill out the paper work..i was just blown away by them tellin me no because of a small mistake on paperwork that they probably have on file in the store..like i said, if they think i am a felon then call it in, they will deny me and that is that....but im not a felon, just made a mistake

I would try to find somewhere that would price match..As far as that goes I would try another Academy. I dont think that they would communicate stuff like that.

exactly!! thats what i have seen done numerous times, this guy just hated his job and made it clear....if they didnt have such good deals i would never shop there again lol

30 days is correct for that store. Go to an academy down the road somewhere and purchase it.
