What to use in hog trap?

I used a hog trap this weekend for the first time and caught a doe. I'm hoping never to do that again because it wasn't a very experience at all trying to get her out. That being said what is the best thing to use to still get the hogs to come to the trap but not deer?

we build our traps with an open top so deer can jump out..the trap needs to be a little taller so the piggies can't jump out.

I heard of soaking corn in diesel before but wasn't sure that would really work. Someone also told me to soak corn in used motor oil. I going to go get some diesel now to start soaking it. Thanks guy's!

I trap hogs all year and deer WILL eat corn soaked in diesel. I have caught 2 deer in traps baited with corn soaked diesel. Tie a heavy burlap bag over the entrance to where it hangs a few inches above the ground. I have not had a deer go in my traps doing this but still catch plenty of hogs.

Put a little diesel with the corn and the deer won't mess with it.

I dump corn with buck candy over the trip wire then make a line to right outside the door. Then I take the diesel and dump a line right at the door the whole width of the trap. That way it smells sweet for them to find it but the deer won't pass the diesel. I put a game cam on it and the deer will walk right past and won't touch it. Also beer soaked corn for about a week in a bucket always works in my trap.

Ditto on diesel soaked corn. Caught a doe one time in a trap and had to put her down as she had broke her jaw trying to get out deveral years ago. Went to soaking corn in diesel and have not had a deer in trap to date. Hogs flat out tear up the diesel corn on our property.

Leave a hog in the trap for a few days. Let em stink it up. Most your local deer will get the hint.

We use guts from any thing, deer, hogs, any guts & or a rib cage, guaranteed no deer! My landowner has trapped alot of pigs this with guts &or rib cages, he is at 88 for the year, trying to make it to 100 before new year!

don't use corn and you will not catch any deer.....guts or table scraps ( like from a restaurant) will do just fine.

We dont put a bottom on the hog traps, is a deer gets into trap we can just flipp it onto the side and the deer will easily escape.
