    Just ranting

I just need to rant on a couple of things.

First off,I am so sick of seeing empty corn bags all over the roadside.I personally picked up 16 myself this past weekend in the Cisco area.Even though it may be only a small percentage of hunters that are so careless,it makes us ALL look bad.I have developed a simple guide to help with this problem.

    1) Go to feeder
    2) Empty the appropriate number of bags of corn into said feeder
    3) Neatly fold the bags as small as possible, leaving one bag unfolded
    4) Take the folded bags and place them into unfolded bag
    5) Once unfolded bag is full, roll top of bag closed as tight as possible
    6) Repeat process at next feeder

This will leave you with a bag full of bags that is heavy enough not to blow out of the back of your truck even at highway speeds.

This method has worked for me for years. Please pass the word on to irresponsible(mostly gun,I believe)hunters everywhere.

I would also like to say that the new antler restrictions, although well intentioned, suck.Im not saying that I have the answer, only that I have several deer on my place that are 4 1/2 - 5 1/2 yrs old that really need to have the air let out of them, but do not meet the antler requirements.I watched a big, mature 6 with an inside spread of about 12" run a 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 10 point drop tine off a hot doe Saturday. We also have a fork that we see all the time that is no more than 10"-11" inside, but about 16" tall.He is old and very aggressive.Thats just how the genetics are in our area.I hate to break the law under any circumstance, but I amseriously considering it.It would probably be worth the price of the ticket.

    Thoughts?

    Hoosky1143,

How are your deer in Cisco right now? I am planning on sneaking in a few hunts before Turkey day this week.

I will agree with the antler restrictions. Basing management techniques off of antler spread is dumb. However, must general public can not age a deer so it is easier to put a rule on spread.

        (mostly gun,I believe)
Probably true based on number of hunters, but why make the accusation? Are we not all in the same boat?

I agree folks need to take better care of their trash.

At least if they stuff all the bags in another bag - you only gotta stop and pick up one instead of 16!

Obviously you have just been looking for corn sacks because there are just as many range cube sacks along the roadway right now as there is corn.

            Heath,
You should be hitting it perfectly. They have hit the rut hard as of Saturday. I am watching a very large 10 with split browtines making him a 12. Will break 150 I am pretty sure. Had an opportunity at him Saturday evening but couldn't get turned right in my blind.

Heath - Its definetly on! Just like Jaspro says. Im leaving in the morning and coming back for Thanksgiving, then going back until Sunday.

LostHawg - Not only because of the sheer numbers, but also from personal experience with the gun hunting community and the bowhunting community

Jaspro - I beg to differ with you on the corn vs. range cubes.Good luck on that 12.

Why don't you make a sign and put it by the road!

As for the antler restriction. You can blame those guys in austin for letting the people who have more land than they know what to do with cry because people shoot deer that were not 160 or 170 class deer and they did not profit from it. It's all about politics and money period. antlers are worth more than gold right now if you think about it. People are trying to make a living on selling deer and it's affecting everybody.

Thoughts on your post and ranting:

                    1) "Please pass the word on to irresponsible(mostly gun,I believe)hunters everywhere." Trying to act like an elite hunter because we shoot bows will only widen the wedge among hunters, and we have enough people outside the hunting community trying to make hell for us. Plus, there are just as many irresponsible bowhunters as there are irresponsible gun hunters. So don't accuse unless you have a photo of a gun hunter losing the sacks, pat yourself on the back for doing you part to keep the roadsides of Texas clean and the hunting image clean.

2)"Even though it may be only a small percentage of hunters that are so careless,it makes us ALL look bad". "I would also like to say that the new antler restrictions, although well intentioned, suck.I hate to break the law under any circumstance, but I amseriously considering it.It would probably be worth the price of the ticket."
Quit throwing rocks in glass houses. You claim to hate how some hunters are careless about feed sacks but are willing to break the law?!?! Yes I am sure the antler restrictions suck, but so far the first counties to use the program are starting to see antler improvements. ANY Wildlife mangement plan is going to have bucks that fall thru the cracks. If you don't like it get in touch with your local TPWD Biologist and work to get on MLD permits and whack every inferior buck you see.

Sorry to offend but glad we live in a country where we all can rant.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and I don't like the antler restrictions either.

It's not fair to say the antler restrictions "suck" because there's ONE deer that you think needs to be shot and the restrictions are keeping you from shooting him. I've personally seen great results from the antler restrictions in Lavaca county and wish they would just implement them statewide!

If you talked to your local game warden about this deer, there's always a chance that he'd give you the OK to shoot it. If not, you can at least say you tried.
