I took my wife along this weekend for a hunt at our ranch. I had seen a wide eight point management buck last weekend that needed killing. I could have shot him but decided to save him for someone else. The only problem was he never would show when I had someone else with me.
We saw him friday evening chasing a doe but could never get a shot. Saturday morning he was nowhere to be found. We found him around 10 a.m. but he slipped away again. He was a spooky old rascal.
Saturday evening around five p.m. I spot him in the brush with a doe. I put some corn out with the roadfeeder and we sit and wait. We were sitting at the x of an x-crossing. I had baited two directions. I figured he would come out to the south if he came at all. Hopefully the doe would get hungry.
After sitting about 20 minutes my wife said there he is on the west right of way. I gave it a casual glance knowing full well he wasn't going to come out on that one. "He's behind those other two bucks". I tell her that's not him. We wait and about ten minutes and she tells me again. "That's him". I look again and then it hits me. It is him.
We finally get her a rest for her gun. I tell her drop him cause it just about dark. Blam! DRT. He had a 25 inch spread.
