I know we are all familiar with the friendly people outside of Wal-Mart ringing the bells during the holiday season. I've always been one in the past to give change from my purse when I had it to "help out a good cause". And yes avoided eye contact with them at all cost when I didn't have any. This year has helped me realize what their "good cause" really is. So I have changed my attitude, hopefully for the better.
In case you didn't know, the Salvation Army was very involved with the effort to fight the wildfires we had earlier this year all across Texas. I know many of you here on the GS helped in many ways those that were affected by that. When I took some of the TBH donations to Strawn I saw there were several meal trucks provided and driven by the Salvation Army. I was told these were the front line vehicles that helped keep all the firefighters supplied with much needed relief of water, food etc.
For me, it's nice to know that my pocket change went to help out people like that. Those that really needed it. I have made more of an effort to keep some handy for me and my son to give. Also, even if I don't have any at that time, I make sure I smile and share a kind word with them. Even if it's just "Merry Christmas".
