Anyone of you heard of or have a Howa rifle? I have actually never heard of them. My b-i-l has a .270 new in the box and was asking what I thought about it. I told him I have no idea. Your thoughts...
Good inexpensive solid rifle. Howa made the actions for a lot of guns over the years. The Weatherby Vanguard and Smith & Wesson 1500 are two that come to mind.

I was going to buy one but couldn't find the exact one I wanted. I asked the local gun dealer about them and his words were, "They are one of the top three most accurate guns I sell out of the box." Aftermarket parts are available, but not as much as a Remington 700 or Savage 10/110. The ones I handled were nice and smooth, I just couldn't find the model I wanted for the price I was willing to pay. IIRC, they are the base actions for a "budget minded, entry level precision "sniper rifle" package" sold by a few of the precision shooting forums such as Sniper's Hide etc.

YUP.
Good Rifles And they look alot better than some of the other rifles aout there!
Basically have three of them. A heavy barelled .308 with hogue stock, tack driver. 25-06 another great shooter. Weatherby .257 Wby Mag. good shooter. Had a guy that shoots for the Army Marksmanship Unit at Ft. Benning try to buy the .308 from me because he shot one of the best 100yd group he has ever shot using federal premium 168gr match. He said the gunsmiths at the unit did a lot of testing of actions and that they were one of the hardest actions they had ever tested.
One of the few problems I've found about them, and probably won't matter to most, if you ever decide to rebarrel it, the threads are metric, so it's harder to get a barrel fitted for it because a lot of smiths don't have the equipment to do metric threads, or so I'm told. Also, the barrel is harder to get off than any other rifle according to a couple of smiths I talked to. The action itself, however, I'm told is incredibly stiff (rigid, not stiff to cycle) due to it's design and the integral recoil lug is a benefit for accuracy.
