Dang, some of you really like duck huntin

I posted on a thread about a couple property's that might come up for lease and that one has ducks. Man did my mail box get full quick. I had as much interest in the ducks as I had the deer. Now my only experience with duck hunting was when I turned down an offer to go once I found out that the trip this guy last took had him breaking ice that froze around his boots! You must be crazy if you are willing to break ice to kill a bird. Personally I love cold weather but I ain't sitting in freezing temps for no duck.
So, what is the appeal of huntin duck. Is it something that if one tries it they will probably love it. Tell me about this duck huntin and convince me to give it a try

What I have found about duck hunting over the years is most the time you either hate it or love it but once you are hooked its over. I find myself looking at every pond that I pass on my way to the deer lease it just never gives up. Always wondering about new spots to try and looking at google earth for new places in the marsh.

Do they still use a points system? Seems like many years ago each duck was worth so many points and you were only allowed so many points a day. I know I could never determaine what a duck was in flight well enough to not shoot somethin I shouldnt

not a fan of cold and water combined - my brother-in-law in Brownwood is into duck hunting as much as I am into deer hunting.

There is nothing better than watching ducks coming into your spread , or watching your dog make a retrieve. Next to bowhunting it's my favorite thing to do.

i did it once. out on flats in chocolate bayou. teal season. covered in mud, mosquitoes the size of hawks. the flats were bruned so it was black mud all over everything. raining like a cow pissing on a flat rock. and i would do it again in a heartbeat. its addicting. cant explain why. i always trashed duck hunters about why woul du do that crap but once i did it. i wanna go again

Between sunrises like this, and shooting at flying objects. I'm addicted to "quack" I guess. My avatar too.

My first duck hunt I drove two hours at 4 in the morning with a group of 8 buddies to get in a morning hunt before class, we got there set out our spread and daylight hit... I s#*t you not, 10 minutes later we were picking up our spread and heading back to campus because we had all limited out. Most fun I've had in 10 minutes in a looong time.

I can't sit here and convince you to do it, you're just going to have to make that choice yourself. That said, it's some of the most enjoyable and best memories of hunting I have. No doubt it's expensive, as is any other hunting, but well worth it especially if you have a lease with birds already coming to it.
