Which 9mm ammo? For range/self defense

    Hey guys,
Getting a new-to-me 9mm, and wondering if anyone could recommend ammo for range plinking and ammo for self-defense (mostly from a hawg would be my guess ;-)

    It's a S&W 5943.

    did you get it yet?

those hollow points did a descent job on the hogs I had in the trap two weeks ago... BUT, I am sure there is MUCH better out there!

        Winchester white box

But self defense and hog killing ammo will not be the same. Jhp's vs ball ammo

I use Winchester RA9TA 127gr+p+ in my carry gun, and WWB 115gr FMJ for plinking. My alternate carry load is 124gr+p Gold Dots.

I'm with cottonfish on the ranger ammo for defense, but I use the heavier grain non +p+ stuff (RA9T):

SGAmmo bulk ammo for sale. Largest selection online for in stock cheap ammunition!

I'm just paranoid using wicked high-pressure rounds..

Any cheap ball ammo will work for range use.

For SD ammo against 2 legged predators get Federal HST Tactical (not hydra shocks), Winchester Ranger T series or Speer Gold Dot.

For 4 legged critters I am a fan of Hornady XTP rounds. They expand well, penetrate deep and hold together nicely.

Federal HST 124gr +P for defense,

Any cheap FMJs for targets, don't use FMJ stuff for shooting critters around the lease, you can find UMC JHPs pretty cheap

                        Mike,
Where do you get your HSTs? I had a good spot in Dallas, but they've been out of 9mm the last few times I've been in there.

The Remington golden sabers are also a good choice.

I have a Beretta and always use the cheap Monarch brand from Academy for range shooting. I like the Winchester PDX JHPs for home defense.
