    Hog attractant

Any of you that hog hunt what attractant do you use? I've used many different things. Some with great results and some with less. Do hogs like Buck candy? Hog wild is still my number one. And corn of course.

The best and cheapest I have found it to take a package of cherry or strawberry koolaid, one package of yeast, one cup of sugar and two beers plus 25#'s of corn. Dig a hole and mix all the ingredients in the hole except for the beer. After you have mixed all the dry ingredients, pour one beer over the top and cover with out 2" of dirt. Drink the other beer and head back to camp. The mixings will ferment and it will not take the hogs long to find it via smell. They will dig a hole to china in that location and you can refreshen it with regular corn, soured corn or another mixture of the above concotion. I have had them dig holes so deep and wide that the hogs would dissapear when the stepped down into the diggings.

Corn is always first on my list. Second is a good helping of hog dropping and urine. Calms them down I suppose.

The diesel keeps the coons and deer from eating it but doesn't bother the hogs.

Do NOT use Buck Candy if you are just hunting for hogs...if you do you will be so covered up with deer, the hogs could not get to the pile!!!

Every time I get the urge to try something new it seems to scare the hogs off, at least initially. They'll come eat it at night but it takes a while to get them used to it. Someone suggested canned cat/dog food here and I tried that too. Whew it stunk and of course no hogs came out that evening. But the next morning it was gone!

I like the idea of digging a hole and pouring all the ingredients in it. That way they would have a chance to get used to it.

Like someone else said, you can throw an old boot out there and they'll eat it eventually.
