I have finally shot my first free range buck! It was big bodied deer weighing 185, a main frame 9 with some trash around the bases and a small point coming off the back side that cant be seen in this picture making him like 13 points. I shot him in Bowie, Texas on Thanksgiving morning. I had been hunting on a friends place for a couple of days and seen some decent bucks and my last morning to hunt was Thanksgiving day; I sat until 8:30 and had seen 8 does until that point. Then I began to regret not taking a shot at one of the does to put in the freezer and all of a sudden 3 does jumped out of a dry creek bed and began to head to the feeder. I decided to go ahead and take a shot; it was 200 yards to the feeder and I lined up and shot the lead doe dropping her in her tracks. I got out of my stand which was an old unused barn and was made my way down to her to begin dressing her out, when I got down to her I looked up and this buck came out of the tree line 100 yards from where I was looking to see what all was going on. I through up my rifle and squeezed of the shot, He ran about 40 yards before he fell. Two deer Thanksgiving morning, I also discovered how much of a pain it is to dress and quarter 2 deer alone. The picture doesnt do him justice but was taken with my IPhone.
