The most important thing is the scope. Huskemaw has an awesome system, so does Night Force.

    Good all around long range:
    7mm Rem Mag
    300 Win Mag
    6.5x284

The only thing bad about the 6.5x284 is that you can't run by Academy to pick up a box of bullets. You have to order online, or self load. It's the big fad right now for long range though. I have shot all three at long distance and they are all good.

Also something that can help you greatly could be a huskemaw scope or a scope with a reticle from premier reticle! Both awesome!

No sir, that's the original Remington wood stock, it's just been glass bedded. The only things really special about that rifle are the barrel, trigger (Timney), and Huskemaw scope. It's freakishly accurate considering how plain it is, and the secret really is the glass. I have the come-ups to 750 yards figured out on the Nikon 5-20x Monarch on my 25-06, but the Huskemaw is so much easier to use.

Your .280 would be a good start for a longer range gun, it just depends on the glass you put on it.
